The Empty Space

The treasures on this shelf, in this order, are:

• A few books
• A vase of flowers
• An empty space
• An old moka pot

Each is irreplaceable, each one carries light.

And so much as that empty space may tempt, so much as the thought may come: "There is just the right thing to occupy this spot!"

Resist! There is already a priceless possession in that place. It would be heartbreaking to carelessly toss away that vase, unflinching as it shatters on the floor!

The empty space should be treated the same.
